Lake Management Chemicals

Many lakes struggle with weed and algae problems at some point during a normal growing season. When used properly, chemical treatments can be a cost effective way to control unwanted aquatic plants and algae and maintain high quality recreational waters.  Accurate identification of the "pest" in need of control along with site specific information is the key to choosing the right chemical and treatment plan.

Below are a few of the most user friendly chemicals available for treating some of the most common "aquatic pests."  Additional chemicals and on-site assistance are available.

Algae Control
Cutrine Plus:  Chelated copper liquid that kills algae on contact.  Great for use in ponds, lakes, and reservoirs for treating planktonic (free floating) and filamentous (stringy) algae.  Can even be used in potable water supplies. 1 gallon/acre foot.
1 gallon          $48.00

Pak 27:,
Hydrogen Peroxide powder that kills algae on contact. Great for use in ponds, lakes, and reservoirs where copper products can't be used. Also works in cold water where copper products don't! Selective for blue-green algae with no toxic by-products. 50 lbs/acre foot.
50 lbs          $120.00

DePhos-A:   A two-part buffered alum water clarifier which flocculates and removes phosphorus and particulate matter from the water column. Great for small recreational lakes, ponds, and even garden ponds. One 40 lb. pail treats one acre foot.
40 lbs          $143.00

Copper Sulfate:  A simple copper compound and broad spectrum controller of planktonic and filamentous algae. Kills any algae it comes into contact with. Application rates vary based on targeted algae.
50 lb bag     $136.00

Aquatic Weed Control
Reward:  Labled as an aquatic and landscape herbicide. Kills a variety of grasses and broadleaf plants. Active ingredient is diquat. Good for a wide spectrum of rooted aquatic plants including various pondweeds, coontail, milfoil, and a whole lot more.  Works great for spot treatments. Knock-down is quick, usually within 7 days. One gallon treats up to one surface acre of water.
1 Gallon          $178.00

Sonar AS:  Great liquid herbicide for treating a wide spectrum of higher aquatic plants including duckweed and watermeal in nearly any body of water including lakes, reservoirs and ponds. Active ingredient is fluridone. One treatment provides season-long control but knock-down is slow, usually about 30 days. Whole lake treatment is recommended. Application rate for most weeds is one quart per acre. Granular form (Sonar Q) is also available. Sonar Q works well for continuous release in flow-through systems and running water.
Sonar AS:   8 oz.  $222.00      Pint  $398.00      Quart  $718.00      Gallon  $2295.00          Sonar Q:   5 lb shaker $208.00

Rodeo: Non-selective aquatic herbicide perfect to eliminate emerged aquatic weeds and brush. Rodeo herbicide offers excellent control of cattail, willow, phragmites and johnsongrass. The active ingredient, Glyphosate, moves from the point of contact into the root system of the weed or brush to disrupt the enzyme that controls production of amino acids essential to growth. Visible effects on most annual weeds occur within 2 to 4 days but on most perennial brush species may not occur for 7 days or more.
Application rate for most weeds is one gallon per acre. Requires surfactant.
2.5 Gallons          $357.00                                LI 700 Lecitech Surfactant        2.5 Gallons        $94.00
